Paul J. Ferneding

Paul J. Ferneding, 82, of Carroll, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with the Revs. James McCormick and Leo Riesberg concelebrating. Lector will be Sister Linda Riesberg. Gift bearers will be Mr. Ferneding's children. Eucharistic ministers will be Joe and Donna Grote. Servers will be Alex, Aaron, and Micaela Boyce. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 a.m.

Casket bearers will be Jeff Volk, Dr. Greg Sextro, Josh Halbur, Dan Ferneding, Loren Boyce and Jim Ferneding. Honorary casket bearers will be Kim Kemptar, Kristi Sextro, Karla Sextro, Jenny Greenburg, Nora Ferneding and Katie Halbur.
Burial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton.

Visitation started at 2:30 and a rosary was prayed at 3 this afternoon at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 tonight at the funeral home.

A son of Frank and Rose (Schlichte) Ferneding, he was born March 6, 1924, at Manning, attended rural school and Sacred Heart School, and spent his younger years in Manning and Templeton.

He and Lillian Riesberg were married Oct. 16, 1945, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton.
The Fernedings farmed at various locations before moving to the family farm near Manning. They moved to Carroll in 1979.

Mr. Ferneding worked for Boyce Monument Sales in Carroll for 21 years and was also employed by Sharp Funeral Home. He moved to Carroll Health Center in June 2006.
He enjoyed horses, woodworking and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian, of Carroll; four children: Lois Sextro and husband Dr. Phil of Grand Island, Neb., Paulette Volk and husband Dave of Coon Rapids, Minn., Don Ferneding of Beatrice, Neb., and Pat Halbur and husband Ken of Geneva, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a stepgreat-granddaughter; and sisters and brothers-in-law: Rita Ferneding of Templeton, Lester and Angie Riesberg of Carroll, Tony and Rose Riesberg of Carroll, Father Leo Riesberg of Carroll, Irma and Paul Grote of Carroll and Hiltrude Riesberg of Arcadia.

Mr. Ferneding was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Alvin Ferneding.
