Jahn home place.

In the year 1879 he was married to Miss Katherine Lemster and settled on his own farm 7 miles south of Vail where they resided until the present time.

Mr. and Mrs. Jahn were blessed with ten children, of whom three preceded their father in death. The oldest son passed away in infancy, Henry, in the year 1915 at the age of 28 years, and Willie in the year 1932, at the age of 49.

Surviving are his sorrowing widow, four daughters, Lena, Mrs. H. E. Kuhl; Minnie, Mrs. Gus Meggers; Adele, Mrs. Ed Mordhorst, of Merrill; and Amanda, Mrs. George Peper, of Flandreau, S. Mr. Jahn was one of the pioneer citizens, highly respected and one of the most progressive farmers. In the early days he broke the sod on his farm and on many of the farms in the surrounding country. In the pioneer days he was one of the leaders in civic and social affairs. He held many public offices and was president of the Home Mutual Insurance company of Carroll and Crawford counties for a number of years. His judgment and wise counsel in public affairs was sought by many. He was widely known and respected by people far beyond the home county. Mr. Jahn had not been in the best of health for several years, although he was able to be around. His condition became serious a few weeks ago and since then he gradually grew weaker until he was released by death Monday morning, July 13, 1930, at the age of 79 years, 3 months and 7 days.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, July 15, at his home, Pastor John M. Ansorge, of the Manning Lutheran Church, officiating.
