Funeral services for Pauline Gehlsen were held Tuesday, July 3, 1979, 2:00 p.m. at the United Church -South, Westside, Iowa, with the Rev. Roxie Davis and the Rev. Bill Davis officiating. Organist was Edna Rohwer. Interment was in Hayes Township Cemetery, Crawford County, with Dale Meyer, Gene Meyer, Richard Stoffers, Jay Stoffers, Brian Joens, and Brad Joens as casketbearers. The Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of arrangements.

Pauline Amanda, daughter of Herman and Laura (Sievers) Jahn was born January 25, 1893, in Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She attended the rural schools near her home. She was united in marriage with Peter Gehlsen on February 16, 1915 in Westside. After their marriage they farmed in Hayes Township. Her husband died in 1955 and Pauline continued to live on the farm with her two sons, Ralph and Leonard.

Pauline was a member of the United Church of Christ of Westside, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and also a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She died suddenly at Manning General Hospital Saturday, June 30, 1979, at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 6 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister, Alpha Moeller.

She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Florence Sander, Arnolds Park, Iowa; Raymond Gehlsen, Ogden, Leonard Gehlsen, Westside; Melvina, Mrs. Edward Meyer, Westside; Louie Gehlsen, Westside; Blondina, Mrs. Henry Stoffers, Arcadia; Reynold Gehlsen, Denison, Ralph Gehlsen, Westside; Judy, Mrs. Lyle Joens, Manning, and Sandra, Mrs. Larry Hansen, Manilla; 28 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; as well as by cousins and other relatives and friends.
