Peter F. Hansen Dead.
January 16, 1908 Manning Monitor

After some days of severe sickness with, chronic bronchitis, Peter F. Hansen, of this city passed away, at his own home, surrounded by several of his children, but when the hour came no human hands could stem the reaper of death.

Mr. Hansen was a good, quiet citizen, always attended strictly to his own business and his word was as good as his bond.

Peter F. Hansen was born June 25, 1836, in Fleckeby, Schleswig, Holstein, Germany, and died January 13, 1908, in his home at Manning, Iowa. If he should have lived to June 25, he would have been 72 years of age. He was married to Miss Ida M. Suhr in the year 1860 and emigrated to America in 1881 and lived in Westside, Iowa, about six months when he moved on a farm eight miles north of Manning. In May, 1893, he retired from the farm and has since resided in Manning.

His wife preceded him to the grave in 1904, but he still lived in their home until his death.

Mr. Hansen served in the Prussian-Danish army in 1864, Prussian-Austrian War in 1866 and in the Franco-Prussian War from 1870 to 1871. Ten children were born to them, and there are yet five boys and three girls still living, while two died in infancy. The oldest daughter lives in Germany, the other seven surviving children live in and around Manning. They are Adolph, John, August, Theodore, Herman, Lena, Germany; Mrs. Mary Grau and Anna Meyers. He also leaves thirty-six grandchildren.

The funeral was held from his home yesterday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. Ansorge, of the German Lutheran church, officiating, after which the remains were interred in the Manning cemetery. The children were all present except Lena of Germany, and Theodore, who is in California at present.

CARD OF THANKS.
To the friends who came to us in the hour of trouble and contributed all that human kindness could suggest to help and comfort, we return most heart-felt thanks, although such devoted friendship cannot remove the sad memories that linger around our vacant chair.
