In Memory of Phyllis Genzen Denker Hagge

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser and the Rev. David M. Sewing officiating. Music for the service was provided by Eldon Hardekopf singing "On Eagle's Wings" and "How Great Thou Art" and the congregation singing "Jesus, Lead Thou On" with Karen Kahl serving as organist. Pallbearers included Dana Genzen, David Genzen, Dean Genzen, Curt Denker, Brandon Hagge and Dennis Denker.

Interment was at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Denison. Following the interment the family invited everyone to return to the church and join them for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by the Zion Ladies Aid.
The Pfannebecker Funeral Home, www.pfannebecker.com, Denison, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements where a visitation was held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2015.

Phyllis was born at Manning, Iowa, May 31, 1934, the daughter of Lester and Irene (Meggers) Genzen. She was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism July 1, 1934, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning and confirmed in her Christian Faith there April 10, 1949. Phyllis was raised on the farm at Manning receiving her elementary education in the rural schools before graduating from the Manning High School with the Class of 1952.

On November 15, 1953, Phyllis was united in marriage with Virgil R. Denker at Manning, Iowa. Their union was blessed with five daughters: Rhonda, Deanna, Linda, Lori and Lisa. They farmed for 34 years northwest of Denison, where in addition to being a busy homemaker and farm wife, Phyllis also was employed at various stores and businesses in Denison.

Virgil died February 20, 1988. Following his death Phyllis remained on the farm before moving into Denison.

On March 1, 1991, Phyllis was united in marriage with Robert Hagge and they made their home in Westside, Iowa. They enjoyed ten years together before Robert died

March 27, 2001. Phyllis remained in Westside until most recently when she moved to Silveridge in Denison.

Phyllis was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, their Ladies Aid, taught Sunday School and assisted with Vacation Bible School. While residing in Westside she enjoyed her membership in various birthday and coffee clubs.

In her leisure hours she enjoyed spending time with her family, playing Euchre, dancing and reading.

Phyllis died Sunday morning, April 12, 2015, at the Madonna Rehab Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 80 years, 10 months and 11 days.

Including her parents: Lester and Irene Genzen; and her husbands: Virgil Denker and Robert Hagge; Phyllis was also preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Pauline Denker; brother Daryl Genzen; step-son Kevin Hagge; step-daughter Rhonda Hagge; and two grandchildren: Elizabeth Hagge and Kristy Jo Petersen.

Those remaining to cherish her memory include five daughters: Rhonda Cool and special friend Eric Littleton and his son Tyler of Kansas City, Missouri, Deanna Denker and special friend Steve of Kelley, Iowa, Linda and husband Jim Thomas of Des Moines, Iowa, Lori Schneckloth of Manilla, Iowa, and Lisa and husband Scott Dollerschell of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; two stepsons: Randy Hagge and Delia Hagge of Westside, Iowa and Michael Hagge of Westside, Iowa; one stepdaughter: Brenda and husband Jim Meggers of Denison, Iowa; stepdaughter-in-law: Jane Rothe-Hagge of Westside, Iowa; 24 grandchildren: Kelsey and husband Jamie, Abby and husband Kevin, Colin and girlfriend Jerica, Justin, Jeremy and fiancé Tiffany, Andy, Billy and wife Jene, Markus, Lexi, Shannon and boyfriend Matt, Tatum, Jared, Dylan, Kayla and boyfriend Ryan, Jordyn, Alec, Ryan, Brandon, Mitchell, Hillary, Tanner, Kory, Emily and Karley; 14 great grandchildren: Landin, Breckin, Jaydin, Talin, Blake, Taylor, Lauren, Sheppard, Halle, Taryn, Nevaeh, Alikxa, Teagan, and Brooklyn; one brother: Royce Genzen and wife Jan of Pomona, California; two sisters: Joyce Koepke and husband Roger of St. Louis, Missouri and Beverly Beckman and husband Larry of Odebolt, Iowa; sister-in-law: Diane Genzen of Manning, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
