Ralph George, son of George Ralph and Bertha Marie (Jensen) Hicks, was born July 26, 1941, at Audubon, Iowa. He was raised by his father and step-mother Ann (Prebeck) Hicks. The family lived just south of Templeton where Ralph attended school. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Templeton in 1959.

Ralph enlisted in the United States Army on June 3, 1959, and was honorably discharged on May 18, 1962. He served during the Korean conflict in communications. Ralph was united in marriage with Barbara Jean Johnson in 1960 and four children were born to this union.

After returning to the Templeton area after his time in the service he worked as a truck driver for MJM Manufacturing and then worked for the Templeton Locker for several years. During this time he lived in the Templeton and Manning areas. In 1970 he moved to South Sioux City, Nebraska, and worked for IBP in meat-packing for many years. In 1987 Ralph moved to Apache Junction, Arizona, and worked as a heavy equipment operator and janitor. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, and fishing.

When his health began to fail in 2010, he moved back to Iowa to be near his family and became a resident of the Manilla Manor Nursing Home. He died there early Monday, November 8, 2010, at the age of 69 years, 3 months and 12 days.
