Funeral services for Ray Dammann were held March 16, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning with Pastor Daniel Vogel officiating and Carlys Stribe as organist. Interment was held in Manning Cemetery with Roy Schrum, Walt Lage, Al Rix and Kenneth Pfannkuch as honorary bearers.

Raymond Edward, son of George and Rosa (Kortum) Dammann, was born May 14, 1907 on the family farm south of Botna, in Shelby County, Iowa. He was baptized later the same year. Ray attended rural school and after completing his schooling, he farmed.

On September 7, 1930, Ray was united in marriage with Mabel Brus. The couple made their home on a farm north of Aspinwall and was blessed with the birth of their daughter. In 1954 he was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.

After his wife's untimely death in 1961, he farmed for one more year retiring in the fall of 1962 when he moved to Manning.

In February 1969 Ray was united in marriage to Leona Gruhn. Ray and Leona were custodians of Zion Lutheran Church for several years. They also enjoyed baby sitting their grandchildren occasionally. Leona passed away November 1978 following a lingering illness.

Ray was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and watching baseball and NBA basketball on television. He was proud of his farming accomplishments, winning awards for top yields with his crops. His grandchildren were a great joy to him and he was proud of their accomplishments.
Ray became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in February of 1991. He died there after a brief illness on Thursday, March 11, 1999 at the age of 91 years, 9 months and 28 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mabel in 1961, his second wife Leona in 1978, and his son-in-law, Bobbie Johnson, in 1992.

Ray is survived by his daughter, Virginia Johnson, of Manning; two grandchildren Teresa and her husband, Doug Schroeder, of Denison and Sonia and her husband, Lynn Nulle, of Manning; three great-grandchildren, Rachel, Natalie and Andrea Nulle of Manning; other relatives; his dear friend Roy Schrum of the Manning Plaza and other friends.


Ray Dammann is buried in the Manning Cemetery.
