Rita Anna, daughter of Rudolph and Mary (Underberg) Nees, was born November 27, 1925, near Lidderdale, Iowa. At the age of eight years, she moved with her family to a farm near Mount Carmel. She attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, graduating from eighth grade and then completing ninth and tenth grade. Rita worked at numerous jobs before she was married, including a shoe factory in Watertown, Wisconsin, where her older sister, Florence, lived.

Rita was married on December 20, 1945, to John Philip Dentlinger, who was in the US Navy at the time. They had seven children. The family farmed for three years near Everly, for 13 years near Glidden and for seven years south of Manning before they moved into Manning in 1969. Rita worked for L.R. Nelson Corporation and after Nelson's closed, Rita trained as a nurse's aide and worked at the Plaza for a few years. When Wells Corporation moved to town, she worked there up to retirement in 1988.

Rita was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish, the Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary, and Manning Regional Healthcare Center Auxiliary. She loved to sew and work in the garden. For many years Rita did lots of craft work, including crocheted items and quilts. She loved to play Yahtzee, card games, and other board games with family and friends.

Rita's husband passed away at the Manning Plaza on November 15, 2002. She lived at their home until December 4, 2014, when she moved to the Manning Plaza where she passed away on January 4, 2015, at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 8 days.
