ROLAND L. KING

Roland L. King, 69, a semi-retired farmer, died Friday, May 24, 1985, at Clarkson Memorial Hospital in Omaha.

Before becoming a farmer, he owned a trucking business. He was a past president of the Carroll County Beef Producers Association, served on the Cameron Township, Audubon County, School Board and was recognized for his soil conservation interest by the Isaak Walton League award.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning with the Revs. John Cornish, minister of the United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Carl Sinning of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Connie Siepker was organist and Larry and Barb Genzen vocalists. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery. Serving as active casketbearers were Bill Ranniger, Lynn Stein, Orland Fara, Duane Otto, Bob Bruch, and Mel Potthoff. Honorary bearers were Bill Horbach, Ray Brandhorst, Roy Struve, Alvin Hansen, Carl Kathorn, and Russ Spies.

Mr. King is survived by his wife Wynona; two daughters: Mrs. Glynn (Charlotte) Hopper, Storm Lake, and Karen Vennink, Audubon; two sons: Gary King and his wife Jeanne, grand Island, Nebraska; and Kenneth King and his wife Trenace, Aberdeen, Idaho; eight grandchildren: Steven Hopper, Tammy Schluetter, Tom Vennink, Jeff and Matt King, and Joseph, Jackie, and Rodney King; three sisters: Mrs. Fred (Ruby) Krueger, Moses Lake, Washington; Helen Martin, Des Moines; and Luella Marlow, Des Moines; and two brothers-in-law: Max Dawson, Kansas City, Kansas; and Don Dawson, Kansas City, Missouri; and a sister-in-law Vickie King, Gray.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles King, Jr.

Mr. King was born at Gray, Iowa, on September 1, 1915, a son of Charles and Margaret (Shaw) King. He attended school at Gray. On March 31, 1936, he was married to Wynona Dawson at Atlantic, Iowa.

He worked for International Harvester Company of Moline, Illinois, and later started his own trucking business.

Then he started his farming operation which was located in both Carroll and Audubon Counties. He went into semi-retirement six years ago and moved into Manning.
