He attended Iowa No. 8 country school near their family farm by Manilla and graduated from Manning High School in 1967. Ronnie went on to Northwest Missouri State University and graduated from Iowa State University in 1972 with a degree in Journalism. He returned to the family farm in 1974 where he farmed until 2014. Ronnie then lived in Manning. During these years he also taught computer science at DMACC in Denison.

Ronnie was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manning. Those that knew him realized that he was an extreme collector of most anything.
