Rosa M. Keat

Funeral services for Rosa Mathilda Keat were held Tuesday, March 25, 1997, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, Iowa. Pastor Robert Riggert, Pastor Curt Dwyer and Pastor James Keat officiated the service with Thomas Schroeder as soloist and Carlys Stribe as organist. Interment was held in Manning City Cemetery, Manning, Iowa, with Charles Petersen, John Petersen, Kenneth E. Keat, James Keat, Daniel Keat, Deborah Teut, Dudley Schroeder, Thomas Schroeder, Janet Schmitz, Patricia Talli, Diane Hamilton and Stephen Schroeder as casketbearers.

Rosa, daughter of Lewis and Anna Ahrens Groteluschen, was born January 11, 1900, at Gray, Iowa. Rosa was baptized on February 11, 1900, and confirmed on March 31, 1912, both at Trinity Lutheran in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa. After graduating, from Gray High School in 1915, Rosa started working at the Farmers Savings Bank of Gray.

On November 6, 1920, Rosa was united in marriage with John (Jack) Keat at Trinity Lutheran Church. Four children were born to this union. They farmed on Audubon and Carroll Counties. Rosa was a homemaker throughout her life; she always had a big garden and made hundreds of quilts. After they retired from farming 1950, they moved to Harlan where she worked for the school system in food preparation. In 1966 they moved to Manning. Her husband, Jack, died at home on October 7, 1973.

Rosa remained in her home until July of 1992, when she became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. She died there on Thursday, March 20, 1997, at the age of 97 years, 2 months and 9 days.

Besides her husband, Rosa was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Donna Mae Schroeder; three sons-in-law: Pete Schroeder, Robert Petersen, and Don Garner; two grandchildren: Michael Schroeder and Barbara Keat; one great-grandson; brothers and sisters: Arnold in infancy, Ted Groteluschen, Carl Groteluschen, Walter Groteluschen, Herb Groteluschen, Elna Joens and Claudia Groteluschen.

Rosa is survived by a son, Kenneth W. Keat and his wife, Mary, of Denison; two daughters: Clarice and her husband, Zarryl Batesole, of Seal Beach, California; and Leola Petersen of North Platte, Nebraska; twelve grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Groteluschen of Batavia, Illinois; other relatives and friends.

Rosa was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa.
