Roy Georgius of Manning Dies In Accident

Roy H. Georgius, 62, Rt. 1, Manning, was killed Saturday night, October 29, 1972, when the pickup truck he was driving went out of control on a Crawford County gravel road three miles north and one and a half miles west of Aspinwall, state police radio officers at Denison reported.

Georgius, who died of head injuries at the scene of the accident, is the fourth traffic fatality in Crawford County this year.

Authorities said Georgius was alone in the vehicle which went out of control on top of a hill on the gravel road, travelled approximately 500 feet into a ditch and up a bank and then overturned on its left side.

Investigating the accident were Iowa State Troopers Robert Hanson and Leroy Webber, both of Denison, and the Crawford County Sheriff's Office.

Services for Mr. Georgius were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla. The Rev. Don Griffin, pastor of the Manilla United Methodist Church, officiated.

Burial was in the Iowa Township Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Roger of Manilla and Robert of Denison; a daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Dorothy) Conlin of Omaha, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren; his father, Ed Georgius of Manilla; and a sister, Mrs. Hugo (Florence) Ewoldt.

Mr. Georgius was preceded in death by his wife in 1959, and an infant brother.
