Funeral rites for Roy Hargens, 67, former resident, were held on Thursday, June 24, 1971, at North Bend, Oregon.

Roy Chris Hargens, 67, died following surgery June 22 in North Bend where he had been a resident for 55 years. He was born October 4, 1903, in Manning, Iowa and was a honorary member of the Coos Bay Fire Dept.

He had been employed by Cutlip's Ice Cream, Teamsters Union 689 as a business agent, Sampson Distributors, the City of North Bend, and was a custodian at North Bend High School.

Surviving are the widow, Rosella, North Bend; three sons, Robert, Coos Bay; Kenneth, North Bend; and Gary, Reedsport: one daughter, Delores Smith, North Bend; four sisters, Lois Crane, Rack Rapids, Iowa; LaVonne Hargens, Sacramento, California; Arlyne Lueth, Manilla, Iowa; and Bernadine; seven brothers, Harry, Omaha, Nebraska; Lester, Avoca, Iowa; Ralph, Freemont, Nebraska; Harvey, North Bend; Billy, Perry, Iowa, Vertus Hargens, Le Mars, Iowa; and 14 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the North Bend chapel of Campbell-Watkins Funeral Homes with the Rev. Ray Aplet of the North Bend First Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow at Ocean View Memory Gardens. The casket will be open until 1 p.m. Thursday.
