RUBY ALICE (WALDE) JAHN

Ruby Alice Walde Jahn was born June 13, 1924, to William and Lillian (Ruberg) Walde. She died at the age of 87 on January 24, 2012, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa.

Ruby was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. She graduated from the Denison High School in May 1941, when she was 16 years old (she was 17 the following month). She had a certificate to teach in the rural schools but had to wait until her 18th birthday to be eligible to teach. Ruby taught at the East Boyer Center School and also at her "home" school, East Boyer No. 8, where she taught some of her brothers and sisters. She also taught in Hayes Township for a time after she married Paul C.H. Jahn on August 27, 1944.

In the early 1960s Ruby was a "neighborhood news" correspondent for Hayes and Iowa townships, writing for the Denison, Manilla, and Manning newspapers. She later worked at J.C. Penney Co; Rural Electric Cooperative; and the Iowa Department of Social Services, from which she retired. Ruby was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church. At various times she was a member of the Ladies Aid Society, Zion Evening Guild, and taught Sunday School.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings: Walter, Helen, Edward, Lillian, Virgil, and LaDonna. Survivors include her husband, Paul; her children and their spouses: Gloria and Ken: Dennis and Diana; and Ron and Jill; five grandchildren: Dustin (Kari), Desiree (Danny), Demi (Rodney), Jacya and Haley; three great-grandsons: Lyric, Desmend, and Dayton; two brothers: Raymond and his wife, Clara; and Leonard and his wife, Shirley; four sisters: Wilma; Gladys and her husband, Phil; and Marilyn and her husband, Max; and Marlene; three sisters-in-law: Leona; JoAn; and Marie; one brother-in-law, Arden; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the service and graveside rites held at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Organist Karen Kahl provided accompaniment for congregational hymns, "Now The Light Has Gone Away," "I Know That My Redeemer Lives," and "Jesus Loves Me," and also for soloist Larry Boeck as he sang "How Great Thou Art." Serving as Pallbearers were Roger Walde, Desiree Jahn, Dustin Jahn, Kevin Jahn, Jacy Jahn, and Haley Jahn. The family invited everyone to return to the church for fellowship and lunch served by the Evening Guild. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
