Ruth Jeanette, daughter of Edward and Rose (Meyer) Brady, was born June 30, 1928, in Carroll, Iowa. She grew up in Aspinwall where she attended school through the eighth grade. Ruth graduated from Manning High School in 1946. Following graduation Ruth worked for the Telephone Company and the Virginia Cafe.

On October 4, 1949, Ruth was united in marriage with Ronnie Hiatt at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. Four children were born to this union. Ruth and Ronnie made their home at various locations in Manning, moving into the present home in 1963. Ruth was associated with Saunders Steak House for 25 years, 14 of which she was a partner. She sold the business in 1978 and basically retired, continuing to work some odd jobs. Ronnie died September 19, 1997.

Ruth was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, a charter member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Altar Society and also taught religion classes. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and Plaza and Hospital Auxiliary Board. Ruth enjoyed playing cards, casino trips, and doing volunteer work, especially participation in congregate meal activities. She worked at the hospital snack bar for the past 20 years. Her great grandson, Ronnie, was the pride and joy of her life. Ruth also took great pride in her Irish heritage and found great enjoyment in being a loving, supportive aunt to Kathy Kuhl.

On Thursday, March 2, 2000, Ruth entered Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, where she died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, following several years of poor health. She was 71 years, 8 months and 6 days of age.

Besides her parents and husband, Ruth is preceded in death by a stillborn daughter Mary, an infant son Edward, two brothers George and Don Brady and a sister Margaret Kuhl.
