Funeral Service for Ruth Jensen of Manning was held Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa.

Reverend Daniel Vogel officiated with Carlys Stribe as organist. Casketbearers were Mickey McCloud, Christopher Heiman, Ryan Jensen, Leonard Dammann, Robbie Jensen, Kurt Grundmeier and Allen Grundmeier. Interment was in the Manning Cemetery in Manning.

Ruth Caroline Ann, daughter of Ludwig "Louie" and Hilda Marie (Volquartsen) Hammer, was born December 29, 1925, at Davenport, Iowa. She grew up in Manning and graduated from Manning High School in 1944. Ruth then worked at the Manning Creamery where she met her future husband Ward.

On March 6, 1946, Ruth was united in marriage with Ward LeRoy Jensen at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Three children were born to this union. Ruth and Ward made their home in Manning where Ruth first worked at Manning General Hospital as a nurse aide. She then owned and operated Jensen's Upholstery with her husband for more than 35 years. In her later years, Ruth volunteered at the grade school in Manning and was affectionately known as Grandma Ruth.

Ruth was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed attending Bible study. Her interests included playing bingo, playing cards, socializing, watching football and spending time with her family. Ruth remained active with taking her friends grocery shopping.

On Sunday, January 29, 2006, Ruth died suddenly and unexpectedly at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa. She was 80 years and 1 month of age.

Besides her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by two brothers Russell Hammer and Ludwig "Louie" Hammer and three sisters: Florence Christiansen and husband Charles, Delores Hammer and Dorothy Grundmeier.

She is survived by three children: Terry Jensen and wife Diane of Carroll; Marva and husband Dennis Henderson of Kansas City, MO; Bruce Jensen and wife Kim of Des Moines; nine grandchildren: Kristi McDonald; Kellie and husband Christopher Heiman; Jill and husband Mickey McCloud; Amy and husband Matthew Namanny; Robbie Jensen and wife Jessica; Ryan Jensen and wife Shilo; Ashley Jensen; Vannessa Krueger and Jordan Jensen; eight-great grandchildren: Jonathon McDonald; Breken Heiman; Allison and Emma McCloud; Madeline Namanny; Conner and Brea Jensen and Serenity White; a sister Margaret Bilsten of Manning; a brother-in-law Donald Grundmeier of Westside; two sisters-in-law Beverly Hammer of Boone, and Anita Hammer of Denison; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

The Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
