Sheila Doris Joseph

Funeral services for Sheila Doris Joseph were held Tuesday, January 12, 1993, at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Reverend Donald Callen from Sioux City, Iowa officiated the service. Additional services were scheduled to be held in Colorado later in the week.
Mrs. Sheila Doris Joseph, 58, of Cherokee, Iowa died Saturday, January 9, 1993, at 9:55 a.m. in the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital following a one-year illness.

Sheila was born on September 24, 1934, to Daniel and Miriam Gowrie Seymour at Moradabd, U.P., India. She received her Master's Degree in Geography from St. John's College in Agra, India and taught Geography at Loretto Covenant College in Lucknow, India.

On August 5, 1965, Sheila was united in marriage to Rev. Sushil Joseph at Moradabd, U.P., India. She came to the United States in 1965 living in Idalia, Colorado for two years and in Denver, Colorado from 1967 until 1979. She received her Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado. She also worked for the Mr. Steak Meat Plant in Denver.

Sheila lived in Brighton, Iowa, and Manning, Iowa, before residing at 506 N. Roosevelt St. in Cherokee, Iowa the past 2 1/2 years. She worked in several of the school libraries and public libraries in the towns that she lived in while her husband was serving the Methodist Church in those towns. She was also very active in helping her husband with his pastorial duties and serving her Lord.

Sheila was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee and was a member and Honorary President of the United Methodist Women. She also served on the Iowa United Methodist Bishop's Committee and the Sioux City Districts Superintendents Committee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Alec Seymour; and two sisters: Iris Phillip and Dolly Singh.

She is survived by her husband, Reverend Sushil Joseph; two sons: Shunil Joseph and wife, Robin, of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Aneal Joseph (1987 graduate of Manning High School in Manning, Iowa) of Nashville, Tennessee; one brother, Hanson Seymour of Agra, U.P., India; four sisters: Marjorie Richards of New York City, New York, Gladys Patterson of Patna, Bihar, India, Joyce Masih and her husband, Dr. Prem Masih, of Mungelie, M.P., India, and Vera Sarin and her husband, Harish, of Virgina Beach, Virginia; many nieces and nephews including Aruna "Bunny" Kumar and her husband, Eric, of Denver, Colorado.
