Sophia Bloecker (Blocker)

Miss Sophia Bloecker, well known resident and for many years a prominent person in the business circle in Manning, passed away after a brief illness at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. William Timmerman in South Manning, on Sunday, January 3, 1937.
She enjoyed good health until a few months ago when her health began to fail. On Christmas day she suffered a stroke of paralysis.

Miss Bloecker never married and made her home with her sister and family since the day she arrived from Germany in 1891.
She was born in Hannereu, Holstein, Germany, Jan. 9th, 1866, and died at the age of 70 years - within 6 days.

She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Wm. Timmerman of Manning, one brother in Germany; two nephews, Henry and Fred Timmerman of Manning; a niece Mrs. R.G. Sutherland of Manning and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Ohde Funeral Home, the Rev. George E. Steele, Pastor of the First Presbyterian church conducting the services. Interment was made in the Manning cemetery.
Pall bearers were L. E. Schelldorf, O. V. Schelldorf, E. E. Breckenridge, P. A. Siem, J. F. Dethlefs and R. H. Kuhl.

The deceased was a person of very quiet and likeable disposition. In her younger days she attended faithfully to her duties in her Meat Market which she established with her brother-in-law, William Timmerman and in which she held an interest. The Central Meat Market of Manning, in which she took great pride of conducting, held the reputation of being one the finest and most up-to-date in the western part of Iowa. She held the reputation of being an expert meat cutter, and she served her patrons faithfully and honestly, until the business was sold to the nephews, Henry and Fred Timmerman. She then retired from business.

When she came from Germany, she came to Persia, Iowa, where her sister and family lived and were in business. In 1906, she came with them to Manning and has spent the greater part of her adult life in our midst. She gained a host of friends who deeply mourn the loss of their departed friend. May her soul rest in peace.
