SOPHIA CLARA HECKENLIABLE
Funeral service for Sophia Clara Heckenliable were held Tuesday, February 17, 1987, at 10:30 a.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Pastor Sushi] Joseph of United Methodist Church in Manning officiated the service. Music was provided by Larry Genzen, vocalist and JoAnn Karsten as organist. Interment was in the Manning City Cemetery with Dennis Stoberl, Jon Meislahn, Earl Singsank, Ron Dreher, Randy Stoberl and LeRoy Dammann serving as casketbearers.

Sophia, daughter of Anton and Clara (Mersman) Stoberl, was born February 2, 1917, in Arcadia, Iowa. She was baptized on February 11 of that year at St. John's Church in Arcadia. The family moved to the Manning area where Sophia was educated in country school and later attended Manning High School.

December 15, 1941, Sophia was united in marriage with Irvin R. Heckenliable. Four children were born to this union, Jolene, Linda, Kenneth, and Raymond; all died as infants. Sophia and Irvin lived in Manning until 1955 when they moved to Carroll. They returned to Manning in 1964 moving to an acreage one mile west of town where their yard and lawn were a source of pride. Sophia's husband, Irvin, was a carpenter and Sophia assisted him in finishing work. Early in their marriage Sophia worked for the W.B. Parrott Company in Manning.

Sophia's husband passed away May 16, 1986. Shortly thereafter Sophia moved to the Elm Crest Apartments in Manning. She had been hospitalized briefly and died at the Manning General Hospital, Manning, Iowa early Sunday morning, February 15, 1987, at the age of 70 years and 13 days.

Besides her husband and children she was preceded in death by her parents and by one brother, Leonard Stoberl.

Sophia is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Valeria and her husband, Louis Dreher, of Audubon; Irene and her husband, Herman Meislahn, of Gray; Reuben Stoberl and his wife, Edith, of Manning; Lyle Stoberl and his wife, Mary, of Stuart; and Norbert Stoberl and his wife, Virginia, of Manning; by the following brothers and sisters-in-law, Mrs. Leonard {Margaret) Stoberl, of Audubon; Elmer and Doris Heckenliable, of Nichols, Wisconsin; Clarence and Lou Heckenliable, of Hemet, California; Idella and Willibold Poeschl, of Yankton, South Dakota; and Evelyn and Lawrence Lundin, of LaBolt, South Dakota; by her good friends, Selma and Bud Bosche, of Manning; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
