Stena Larson
Death of Mrs. Larson.
Stena Larson died at the residence of her son, Christian J. Larson, early on the morning of
Friday, December 16, 1887. She had been suffering from the growth of a tumor for about a
year, but for the past three months had been bed-fast and suffered the most intense pain.
The deceased was born in Norway on October 25, 1815, and at an early age in life was
married to Mr. Larson. She was the mother of eleven children, seven of whom are still living.
The family came to this country in 1864 and located in Henry County, this State, but a year
later moved to Mahaska County, where the husband and father died in 1871. For the past
three years the deceased has made her home with her son Christian J. Larson in Manning.
Mrs. Larson had a large acquaintance in this community and was highly esteemed by all. At
the age of twenty-one years she experienced religion and connected herself with the Friends
Church (Quakers) and has been a strong advocate of that faith ever since. She took a lively
interest in Christian work during her residence in Manning and will be missed by those with
whom she associated in church and missionary affairs, as well as by a large circle of other
friends. The funeral was held from the Presbyterian Church last Sunday afternoon, the
services being conducted by Rev. O.H. Truman, and the remains were interred in Manning
Cemetery.
