Mr. Hansen was born December 23, 1873 in Holstein, Germany (died July 30, 1943). When six years old he came with his parents to Carroll County. The family lived on a farm south of Arcadia. He attended country school, the Arcadia public school and graduated from the Carroll Normal College. Following this, he taught school for several years.

In 1895, Mr. Hansen became a partner in the first general store established in Manning. He kept an interest in the business until the present time. The firm name has changed several times. First it was Karsten and Hansen, then Hansen Brothers, when his brother Herman was a partner for twenty-five years. Next it was Hansen and Hansen, when Herman sold his interest to his nephew, Peter F. Hansen, who is now a partner in the Hansen-Pahde Company. Mr. George Albert purchased stock in the company and the firm was known as Hansen-Albert. When Mr. Albert died, Herman Pahde took over his stock.

Mr. Hansen was active in the store until the past year.

He was married to Miss Mary Brennan at Odebolt on April 14, 1896. Mr. and Mrs. Hansen had no children of their own, but reared their nephew and niece, Francis and Edna Brennan.
Edna passed away several years ago.

Survivors include his wife and Lt. Francis Brennan of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; four brothers and one sister, Adolph, August, John, Herman, and Mrs. H.W. Meyers (Anna) all of Manning, and several nephews and nieces.

His parents and two Sisters preceded him in death, Mrs. August Grau (Mary), Manning, and Mrs. Lena Belkin, Germany.

Mr. Hansen had served as a member of the city council and at the time of his death was on the city park commission, and was the Treasurer of the Dultmeier Manufacturing Company. Although not bedfast, Mr. Hansen had been confined to his home for nearly a year. During that time he had taken treatments at Iowa City and Omaha.
