She grew up on the farm and attended rural school near her home through the eighth grade. She then graduated from Manning High School in 1944. Following graduation, Valdean worked for the Rationing Board during World War II.

On August 21, 1946, Valdean was united in marriage with Jack Peters in Manning. Three children were born to this union. They lived in a great many places all over the United States due to Jack's work.

On December 9, 1968, Valdean was united in marriage with Harry Fischer at Atlantic and gained a step-daughter. They lived near Manning for eight years and then moved to a farm north of Irwin. Harry died in 2001. Valdean moved to Arcadia in 1998 where she was active in the Arcadia Presbyterian Church.

Valdean loved to cook and bake and kept busy with her crocheting and knitting. She was very musical and played the organ at church for many years.
