Funeral services for Velma Ruth Kruse were held Monday, November 30, 1981, 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Edward F. Heinicke officiating. Interment was in Manning Cemetery with Roland Derner, Wayne Ranniger, Wilbur Hill, Kenneth Arkfeld, Arthur Kuhn and Selmer Hodne as casketbearers.

Velma Ruth, daughter of Grover and Ella (Gruhn) Steen, was born August 1, 1924, near Botna, in Crawford County, Iowa. She was graduated from Manning High School in 1941. During her high school years she took Normal Training and after graduation taught country schools in Shelby, Crawford, & Carroll Counties.

She was united in marriage with Robert Kruse on August 25, 1945. They lived in Manning for a short time and then moved to their present farm home in the Botna area, near Irwin.

Velma died on Friday, November 27, 1981, at the Manning General Hospital, Manning, Iowa, following a long illness, at the age of 57 years, 3 months and 26 days.

She was preceded death by her father, Grover Steen.

She is survived by her husband, Robert, and by the following children: Lynn and his wife Nancy, of Ames, Iowa; Shary, Mrs. Allan Arkfeld of rural Dow City; and Luanne, Mrs. Arlan Sandvik of Nevada, Iowa; by the following grandchildren, Aaron, Andrew & Laura Arkfeld & Jesse Sandvik; by her mother, Ella Steen; by her mother & father-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. W.J. Kruse of Manning; by a sister Betty, Mrs. Merlin Welch of Hudson, Florida, and also by aunts, uncles, nieces, a nephew and cousins.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Ladies Aid of Manning. She taught Sunday School for many years. Velma was also a member of the Jefferson Community Club.
