VERA AUEN
Vera Marie, daughter of Fred and Marie (Rathmann) Mensing, was born August 20, 1910, in Kankakee, Illinois. She moved with her family to Austin, Minnesota, in 1916 where she attended the schools.

She was united in marriage with Ralph Auen, December 3, 1940. They farmed near Irwin, and then moved to a farm near Denison in 1950 and in 1960 moved into Denison. In 1975 they moved to the Elm Crest Apartments in Manning.

Her husband died November 25, 1977, and Vera continued to live in the Elm Crest Apartments. Due to failing health, she moved to the Manning Plaza January 1 of this year. She died at the Manning General Hospital May 27, 1979, at the age of 68 years, nine months and seven days.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and by one sister, Doreen.

She is survived by two stepsons, Orville Auen of Denison and Vernon Auen of Carroll. She is also survived by two sons, Wilbur Sanders, United States Merchant Marines and William Sanders of Fargo, North Dakota; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Nelda Lytle of Kankakee, Illinois; one brother, Alfred Mensing of Austin, Minnesota, as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held May 30, at 2 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home, Manning. Officiating was Pastor L.W. Sawhill, Zion Lutheran Church, Arcadia.

Interment was in the Arcadia Cemetery. Pallbearers were Henry Johnson, Harold Linde, Marvin Linde, Arthur Linde, Jack Lytle and Elvin E. Wiebers.

Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of arrangements.
