VERDIS PETER HANSEN

Funeral services for Verdis Peter Hansen were held Wednesday, July 26, 1989, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll. Rev. Lanny Tuttle officiated the service with Mrs. Don Severin as organist and Mr. Skip Raridon as soloist. Interment was in the Carroll City Cemetery with Vernice "Windy" Halbur, Don Pick, Tom Rogers, Dale McCoy, Bill Schaefer, Doug Bock, Jerome Halbur, and Bob Snyder serving as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers were Willis Puck, Darwin Petersen, John Juergens, Merrill Rogers, Milton Staley, John Swearingen, Roy Heuton, and George Fischer. A Masonic Memorial service was held Tuesday, July 25, 1989, at 8:00 p.m. at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll, by Signet Masonic Lodge.

Verdis Peter Hansen, son of August F. and Emma (Kusel) Hansen, was born August 13, 1911, on a farm one mile east of Manning, Iowa. He attended country school one year and finished his schooling in the Manning school. He graduated from Manning High School in 1930. He moved to the farm of his birthplace and lived there 8 years. During this time he was employed by Dultmeier Manufacturing Co. of Manning, for 14 years.

He was married to Ione E. Kruse on December 30, 1933, at Denison, Iowa. They left the farm in 1945 moving to Carroll where he purchased one-half interest in his father-in-law's business, the Kruse Chick Hatchery and Feed business.
He retired from this business in 1962. His wife died in July of 1968.
He then married Winita Harriott on August 25, 1975. She died on May 25, 1979.

Verdis died at his home at Orchard View Apts. in Carroll, on Sunday, July 23, 1989 following an unexpected illness at the age of 77 years.

Survivors include a nephew, Erwin Stoelk of Des Moines; two nieces: Mrs. Forrest (Virginia) Wiese of Arcadia, and Mrs. Patricia Sibbel of Carroll; two step-children: Howard Harriott of Omaha, Nebraska and Mrs. Roberta Schroeder of Michigan; and two step-nieces: Mrs. Frank Testroet of Carroll and Mrs. Melvin Stoffers of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wives; by three sisters: Elsie Sibbel, Alma Greteman, and Ida (Stoelk) Noe; by one niece and one nephew.

Verdis was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carroll, Signet Masonic Lodge No. 264 A.F. and A.M. of which he was a past Master, he was a member of the Copestone Chapter of The Royal Arch Masons of Iowa No. 78 R.A.M., Cryptic Council No. 38 Royal and Select Masters of Iowa, Azgad Commandery No. 63, all of Carroll, and the ZaGaZig Shrine Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Des Moines, and had served as secretary of the Masonic Temple Trustees Association for many years. He was a former member of the Carroll Country Club and a member of the Carroll County Sportsman Wild Life Club.
