Funeral services for Vernon Wilbert Anthony were held March 4, 1990 at 1:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. Officiating the service was Pastor Steven Stork with Mrs. Margaret Wiebers as organist.

Interment was held in Carroll County Cemetery, Carroll, with Robert Hagge, LeRoy Koch, Ronald Leiting, Arlan Lueders, Alan Lueders and William Jentzen as casketbearers.

A prayer service was held March 3, 1990 at 7:30 p.m. at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll.

Mr. Vernon Wilbert Anthony, 83, of Carroll, Iowa and formerly of Westside, Iowa, a retired farmer, died at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll March 1, 1990. Mr. Anthony was born in Washington Township, Carroll County, February 26, 1907, a son of John and Clara Joens Anthony. He attended rural schools near his home. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith.

March 10, 1936, Vernon was married to Dorothy Hoogestraat at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia, Iowa by the Reverend Theodore Tews. They farmed south of Westside until 1987 when they retired and moved to Carroll. They celebrated their golden anniversary March 10, 1986. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia, Iowa and was a life member of the Hayes Township Scheutzen Verein, and an officer for many years.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents and a sister and a brother.

Surviving are his wife Dorothy of Carroll; a son Gordon Anthony and his wife Deanna of Park Forest, Illinois; a daughter Ina Rae Nieland of Carroll; two grandsons: Scott and Ryan Anthony; one granddaughter Amber Nieland; a sister Ruby Wuebker of Perry; a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law, Arlene and John McSweeney of Studio City, California and nieces and nephews.
