Verna died Sunday evening at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in Manning.
Mass of the Christian Burial for Verna Hass, age 76, of Manning, will be Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Manning. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 2, 2013, from 4 PM to 7 PM, at Sacred Heart Church in Manning with a Prayer Service at 7 PM followed by a Rosary. The Johnson & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Manning is in charge of arrangements.
Interment: Sacred Heart Cemetery: Manning, Iowa.

Verna Frances, daughter of John and Jenny (Muhlbauer) Singsank, was born December 16, 1936, near Templeton, Iowa.

She was baptized in December of 1936 at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton and was confirmed at Sacred Heart Church in Manning.

She attended school in Manning and graduated from Manning High School in 1955.

Verna then worked for Prebe's Hatchery.

On June 25, 1956, Verna was united in marriage with Merlin Hass at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. The couple made their home in Manning and three children were born to this union.

Verna worked as a secretary for the local State Farm office for 35 years, retiring in 2007.

Verna was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Sacred Heart Church, where she was active with the Altar Society. She enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing, doing jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren.

In 2011, Verna became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home where she died on Sunday, June 30, 2013. She was seventy-six years of age.

Verna is survived by: her husband Merlin Hass of Manning; three children: Jon Hass and significant other Sharon Farrer of Hampton; Joanie Lueders and husband Al of Westside; and David Hass of Des Moines; seven grandchildren: Christie Lueders and her significant other Jay Ochanpaugh, Danny Lueders and his significant other Paige Lombardi, Ricky Lueders and wife Marjie, Kody Lueders and wife Eryn, Adam Hass, Eric Hass and wife Jessica, Alex Hass and fiancée Courtney; two great-grandchildren: Cayden Lueders and Raelle Hass; two sisters: Laurel Vogl and husband Earl of Carroll and Cleo Hansen and husband Gary of Overland Park, Kansas; a brother Earl Singsank and wife Jean of Manning; a sister-in-law Connie Singsank of Manning; three brothers-in-law, Lester Hass and wife Viola of Harlan; Raymond Schuldt of Denison and Earl Schmidt of Denison; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother Glen Singsank; two sisters Margaret Popp and Ardella Berg; three brothers-in-law: Hank Hass and wife Zita, Melvin Hass and wife Vernetta and Marvin Hass and wife Florence; and two sisters-in-law LaVerne Schmidt and Helen Schuldt.
