Funeral services for Vernon C. Asmus were held at 12 noon Saturday, October 7, 2000, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel, Overland Park, Kansas. Burial was held at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Vernon passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2000, at his home at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Vernon, the son of Ben and Hattie Asmus was born March 20, 1932, in Manilla, Iowa. He was a 1949 graduate of Manning High School. His parents owned a tavern in the building that now houses LeBoutique Salon, known as Ben and Hats at 307 Main Street.

Vernon was a sales representative for Astra Pharmaceutical Company for twenty-five years, retiring in January of 1999.
