Vernus H. Grimsman, age 90, of Lake View, Iowa, and formerly of Halbur, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia with Pastor Ben Dose officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Friday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Lisa Mc Nelley and soloist will be Laurie Schmidt accompanied by David Cook on the piano. Casket bearers will be Jason Grimsman, Mathew Grimsman, Alex Grimsman, Jeremy Grimsman, Adam Grimsman, and Kyle Grimsman. Honorary casket bearers will be Carrie Menke, Todd Grimsman, Ashley Myers, Alaina South, Kelsie Grimsman, Madison Guidry, Gerald Guidry. Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery.

Born on September 27, 1921, at Carroll, Iowa, he was the son of Harry and Augusta (Boldt) Grimsman. He grew up on his family's farm northwest of Halbur where he attended country school in Washington Township as a boy. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia by Pastor Tews. Vernus was married to Marion Ossenkop on October 19, 1947, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning by Pastor Ansorge. The couple lived all their married life on the family farm where they raised their six children. Marion passed away on October 31, 1989. Vernus later married to Betty Mason on August 28, 1993, and the couple made their home in Lake View, Iowa. Vernus was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. Vernus was a lifelong farmer and farming was his passion. In his spare time he enjoyed dancing with the Polka Dots and going to dances in the area, being at the lake, gardening, traveling, bird feeding, and most of being a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Surviving are his wife Betty Mason Grimsman of Lake View; a daughter Barbara Buchanan and her husband Mark of Boise, Idaho; five sons: Dale Grimsman and his wife Judy of Redondo Beach, California, Allan Grimsman of Halbur, Gary Grimsman and his wife Frankie of Cave Creek, Arizona, David Grimsman and Brooke Sloan of Columbia, South Carolina, and Scott Grimsman and his wife Renee of Carroll; thirteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; Betty's children: Julie and Tom Mc Mahon, Mary and Ralph Goebel, Donald and Julia Mason, Laurie Schmidt, Jan and David Manzer, and Heidi Mason and their families; a sister Arleen Holverstott of Colorado; two brothers: Jack Grimsman and his wife Gloria of Carroll and Duane Grimsman of Orange Valley, California; a sister-in-law Louise Stoffers of Carroll; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Vernus was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Marion.
