VERTUS H. BRUS

Vertus H. Brus was born on April 25, 1911, the son of Otto and Emma Lage Brus. He died on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1993, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 82 years.

Vertus was born on a farm near Manning and received his early education in a rural school in Hayes Township. After completing his education, he was employed by area farmers; also for various construction firms, and was one of the foremen for the Hoak Construction Company; he was also engaged in farming.

On July 19, 1941, Vertus was united in marriage to Ida Martens of Westside in Omaha, Neb. The couple settled on a farm near Westside for 52 years, until Venue entered the Denison Care Center on April 1, 1993.

He was a loving and caring husband and in his spare time he enjoyec fishing, hunting, square dancing, had a unique sense of humor and was e joy to be with. The couple enjoyed entertaining with music in western Iowa for 29 years.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Arcadia, Hayes Township 5 Mile House Schuetzen Verein and served on the Board of Directors for South Crawford Rural Electric for 23 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Willis.

Survivors include his wife, Ida of Westside; two brothers, Arnold Brus and his wife, Luella of Manning and Elmer Brus of the Carroll Manor; also many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, with Reverend Perkins Patton officiating the service and grave side rites held at the Westside Cematery in Westside. Evelyn Johnson provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Rubie Kastner singing, "Beyond the Sunset" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere."

Pallbearers were Wayne Brus, Dale Musfeldt, Merlin Nulle, Keith Lueders, Eddie Holdsworth, and Glen Martins.

The family invited everyone in attendance at the sarvice to join them for lunch at the Westside Community Building, served by the church ladies.

The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
