VIRGINIA H. JANNING

Virginia Janning, 83, of Lake View and formerly of Carroll, died Sunday, February 12, 2012, at the Carter House Assisted Living in Blair, Nebraska.
Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 16, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll.
Celebrant will be Father Timothy Johnson.
Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir.
Gift bearers will be Aislinn Williams and Shelli Janning.
Casket bearers will be Virginia’s sons Dennis, Gary and Jim Janning, and Virginia’s grandchildren Natalie Williams, Mark Janning and Kristan Holthus.
Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Christian wake service by the parish at 6:30 p.m. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9 a.m. Thursday when visitation will resume before the Mass.

Born December 2, 1928, at Templeton, Virginia Helene was a daughter of Wendell and Helena (Berg) Hacker. She spent her younger years in the Templeton area and attended Sacred Heart School.

On May 5, 1947, she married Urban “John” Janning at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton. Following their marriage they made their home in Manning and in 1955 moved to Carroll.

John and Virginia owned and operated Club 30 east of Carroll and the Pin Oaks Restaurant, retiring in 1983. Virginia enjoyed the Lawrence Welk and Guy Lombardo shows, craftwork, praying the rosary, being outdoors, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her sons: Dennis Janning and his wife Diane of Carroll, Gary Janning and his wife Joyce of Blair, Nebraska, and James Janning of Aurora, Colo.; three grandchildren: Natalie (Christian) Williams of Tucson, Arizona, Mark (Shelli) Janning of Blair, Nebraska, and Kristan (Jeremy) Holthus of Omaha, Nebraska; three great-granddaughters: Aislinn Williams, Jerzie Janning, and Brooke Janning; one sister: Helen Lee David of Carroll; one brother-in-law, Robert McDonald of Carroll; one sister-in-law, Anna Mae Hacker of Carroll; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Urban “John” Janning in March 1994; a daughter in infancy, Barbara Ann Janning; one sister, Harriet McDonald; and three brothers: Ed, Maurice and Clifford Hacker.
