W.C. LAFLAR DEAD.
On February 17, Mr. William C. Laflar, father of Gordon W. Laflar who is owner of the Monitor, passed away at his home in Hamilton, Washington, after a lingering illness of nine months with diabetes. Mr. Laflar was well known in Manning, having resided here from November 1881, until July 1891. Then he went to Washington, where he lived until death with a nephew. During five years of his sojourn in Manning, Mr. Laflar was night-watchman, serving the city well in this capacity.

Mr. Laflar was an honorable gentleman in all that word implies, and his friends in Manning were legion. He was kind hearted and at all times and in all places appeared on the bright side of life.

Mr. G.W. Laflar had expected to leave for Washington today, but upon receiving word, Tuesday, that his father was dead and buried he has given up going for the present.

Mr. W.C. Laflar was born October 19, 1831, at Mt. Vernon, Ohio. At the age of 18 years he moved with his parents to Lake County, Indiana. In 1854, he was joined in marriage to Margaret Powers, at Des Moines, Iowa. A year later the couple moved to a farm near Lewis, Iowa, being among the first settlers of Cass County. Unto this union was born a son and daughter, namely Mary A. and G.W. The daughter died at the age of 23 and the mother passed away in 1858. From that time until called from earth, the subject of this writing lived the life of a widower.
Burial with his wife was in Smith Cemetery, Griswold, Iowa.
