Walter John Kienast, 64, died Friday of accidental gunshot wounds at his farm home. It was reported he was attempting to shoat a skunk when the mishap occurred.

Turner County Coroner, John L. Schetter and Sheriff Fred C. Dobson investigate.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Wass Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Robert McBride officiating.

Mr. Kienast was born November 27, 1893, at Manning, Iowa. He came to Centerville with his parents and farmed in this vicinity all his adult life. He was married May 18, 1920, to Laura Wenk.

His survivors include the widow, one son, Carl at home, one daughter, Mrs. Palmer Petersen, Viborg, South Dakota, his mom, Mrs. Alvina Kienast, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, one sister and 3 grandchildren.
Preceded in death by siblings: Selma T. Kienast December 20, 1871 to September 4, 1894, buried at Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa.

Alternate obituary: Walter Kienast dies early Friday morn from rifle bullet. On Monday afternoon funeral services were conducted at the Wass Funeral Chapel for Walter Kienast 65 the Rev. Robert McBride of Hurley officiating. Casket bearers were Everette Snoozy, Sigvold Knudson, Lloyd Overgard, Melvin Snoozy, Nels Birkland, and Merle Langeland.
Interment was in the Riverview Cemetery Centerville. Miss Roberta Peterson was soloist at the service with Mrs. Robert Ward as accompanist. The body of Mr Kienast was discovered about 6 am Friday morn in a double corn crib at his farm home northeast of Centerville, South Dakota. Coroner John Tschetter of Marion, South Dakota, ruled the death as accidental. He had been shot in the forehead by a 22 calibre rifle. The body lay between a trailer loaded with sorghum and the inside north wall of the crib.

And passed away October 24, 1958, at his home at the age of 64 years 10 months and 27 days. While still a boy, he moved to Centerville, South Dakota, with his parents and remained in thus community until his death. On may 18, 1920, at Vermillion, South Dakota, he was married to Laura Wenk. He is survied by his wife, Laura, one son Carl at home, one daughter Marjorie (Mrs. Palmer Peterson) of Viborg, South Dakota, his Mother Mrs. Alvina Kienast of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. One sister Mrs. Hilda Liaboe also of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Three granddaughters as well as other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one sister his father and one brother.
