WILBUR VERNON LAMP
Wilbur, son of Edward and Laura Friedrichsen Lamp, was born February 9, 1918, in Crawford County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church near Kiron. As a youth he attended rural schools.

On June 15, 1941 Wilbur was united in marriage with Phyllis Pieper at Vail, Iowa. They worked on a farm for Loren Hockett for five years before starting to farm on their own in Ewoldt Township. After 35 years on the same farm they moved into their home at 61 Ann Street in Manning. During his retirement years, Wilbur and his wife cared for the Manning City Park.

Wilbur was very active as a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, serving as usher and elder for many years and as president of the congregation at one time. He was an honorary member of the Hayes Township Schuetzen-Verein. In his spare time Wilbur enjoyed fishing and trapping and refinishing antique trunks.

Wilbur was diagnosed with cancer in April of 1993 and was in failing health until the time of his death on Saturday, November 6, 1993, at his home in Manning, Iowa. He was 75 years, 8 months, and 28 days of age.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers, Arnold Lamp, and Clifford Lamp.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, of Manning; his children: Gordell Lamp and his wife, Valda, of Manning; Mahlon Lamp and his wife, Jane, of Atlantic; and Jean and her husband, Rudy Roe, of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren; three sisters: Deloris Sonnichsen, of Denison; Marian and her husband, Bill Nicholson, of Denver, Colorado; and Norma and her husband, Rick Blanchette, of Clifton, Colorado; a brother, Harvey Lamp and his wife, LaRoyce, of Denison; aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.


Wilbur Lamp is buried in the Manning Cemetery.
