WILLIAM J. AHRENDSEN
William, son of Julius and Anna Asmus Ahrendsen, was born May 8, 1913, on the Ahrendsen family farm in Shelby County, Iowa. He was baptized a month later, June 8, 1913, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Audubon County. Bill attended rural school in Shelby County and later attended Trinity Lutheran Parochial School. He was confirmed on March 13, 1927. The next year the family moved to a farm in Douglas Township, Audubon County.

On January 20, 1937, Bill was united in marriage with Lydia Beck at Trinity Lutheran Church. They farmed in Audubon County until 1945 when they moved to their farm south of Manning. Bill began his farming career with horses and mules and even though the farming operation became mechanized he continued to love to watch horses. Upon his retirement from farming Bill was honored for being a Wilson seed corn dealer for 52 years.

In 1984 Bill and Lydia moved to an apartment in Manning and he would often go out to the farm to help his son. Several years later they moved to Audubon and in January of 1992 he and his wife became residents of the Exira Care Center, as their health had begun to fail.

Bill died at the Audubon County Hospital on Friday, July 22, 1994, at the age of 81 years, 2 months, and 14 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Alfred Ahrendsen.

Survivors include his wife, Lydia, of the Exira Care Center; his son, Glen Ahrendsen and his wife, Shirley, of Manning; his daughter, Luella and her husband, Maurice Borkowski, of Audubon; three grandchildren, Clark and Julie Borkowski and Aaron Ahrendsen; a sister, Lillie and her husband, Elmer Bauer, of Audubon; a brother, Edward Ahrendsen and his wife, Ilamae, of Audubon; a sister-in-law, Lola Ahrendsen, of Manning; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
