William, son of John and Bertha (Bruggeman) Brus, was born March 31, 1908 north of Manning, in Carroll County, Iowa. He attended country schools near his home. After he finished his schooling he worked on the home farm with his father and also worked as a hired man on neighboring farms.

On June 8, 1938 Bill was united in marriage with Leona Karsten at Manning. They lived and farmed with his parents, purchasing the farm when his parents moved into town. In 1973 Bill and Leona retired and moved into Manning. He had served on the election board, both while living in the country, and after moving into town. He also served on the Board of Review in Carroll.

Bill was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed on September 23, 1954. For many years he was an Elder and Trustee.

Bill's health began to fail a couple of years ago but he had only been in the Manning Plaza a short time before his death there on Sunday morning, February 7, 1993 at the age of 84 years, 10 months, and 7 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Mabel, Mrs. Ray Dammann.
Survivors include his wife, Leona, of Manning; a brother-in-law, Ray Dammann, of Manning; a niece, Virginia Johnson, of Manning; other relatives and friends.
