William Buhmann Dies Suddenly, Caused By Heat

William Buhmann, a resident of Manning for many years, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 28, 1935. He was stricken by the intense heat and his death was the result of heart failure. On August the 3rd he would have been sixty-five years of age.

The deceased was a familiar figure on the streets of Manning as he seldom missed a day about town with his friends. For several years he had been helping at the Peter Lohmeier Cream Station.

Mr. Buhmann was in apparent good health up until his death. He had worked at the cream station the day before and was on the street shortly before he was found by friends in the doorway of his room, where he died.

William Buhmann was born on August the 3rd, in the year 1870 in Schleswig Holstein, Germany. He was the third son of Claus and Marargetta Buhmann. When he was a child he was baptised and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in Germany. When he was 17 years of age, in 1887 he came to the United States of America, direct to Manning, Iowa.

Some years afterwards he left Manning for Chicago and there he stayed for a few years, but returned to Manning and has been a resident of this town to the day of his death.

He leaves to mourn him a son whose whereabouts are now not known, and five brothers: Hermann, Johann, Frederick, Hans and Reimer, all of Germany.

One brother, Henry, passed, away in 1931, and his two sisters, Magdalene, Mrs. Hans Claussen, died April 18th, 1921, and Katherine, Mrs. Hans Karsten, died September 15th, 1923. He also leaves 10 nieces and 9 nephews and a brother-in-law, Mr. H.C. Claussen and there may be other nieces and nephews in Germany of which his relatives here have no knowledge.

Mr. Buhmann was a member of the Schuetzen Verein and was well known in this town. Although he lived alone he had a large number of friends, and there are many who would not find it difficult to speak a good word for him. He was a man who had had his sorrows in this world and one who had to bear them without the consolations of a home and family life.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Ohde Funeral Home with Rev. E.J. Hough officiating.

Burial was in the Manning cemetery. Acting as pall bearers were John Frahm, John J. Schroeder, Peter Lohmeier, John Junge, and Conrad Dietz.
