Rites Tuesday for William Claussen

Funeral services for William Claussen, 65, was held at 2:00 Tuesday, at Ohde Funeral home in Manning, with the Rev. Gordon Zimmerman of the Audubon Presbyterian Church in charge. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery. Manual Lodge, AF & AM, conducted Masonic rites, and the Ceremonial team of Emil Ewoldt Post No. 22, American Legion, were in charge of military services.

Mr. Claussen was born January 13, 1888, in Manning, the son of Hans and Magdalena Claussen. Following service in World War I, he and his brother, Rudolph, operated a drug store in Manning; then the store was operated by William Claussen alone. After its sale, he went to Des Moines, where he was employed by the government at Fort Des Moines until 1943. He suffered a slight stroke then, and had been a semi-invalid since. Last Friday he had another stroke and was taken to the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines Saturday. He died early in the morning Sunday, July 12, 1953. Mr. Claussen was unmarried. He is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Herman Hoffmann (Margaret); Mrs. Betty Holmberg, and Claus J. Claussen, Manning; Herman Claussen, Winterset; Harry Claussen, Coffeyville, Kansas; and Herbert Claussen, Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Rudolph, and a sister, Mrs. Ella Long.


William Claussen is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
