William KUSEL PASSED AWAY
Manning Monitor January 2, 1919

William Gregorian Kusel was born January 20, 1887, in Audubon County, near Gray. At the age of 4 years he removed with his parents to Carroll County settling in between Manning and Templeton. Here he grew to manhood and attended the Manning Public Schools and a later period went to Highland Park College, Des Moines, Iowa, where he entered the pharmacy department, from which he graduated in the year 1910. He then took up his chosen occupation as a pharmacist and went to Woonsocket, South Dakota, becoming a clerk in a drugstore at that place.

He was married July 1, 1913, to Miss Wilhelmine Meyer of Woonsocket, South Dakota. Immediately after his marriage he with his wife moved to Lane, South Dakota, where he went into the drug business for himself. Here he lived until his death. He was a man of rugged build and robust health, until suddenly taken with Influenza.

His was a most untimely death. He came home apparently in usual health, December 22, partook of a hearty dinner, and soon after dinner, or sometime in the afternoon he was stricken with that dread disease, the "Flu." This was soon followed with the complication of pneumonia from which he died on December 26, 1918, being sick less than five days. He was a man highly esteemed and loved by those who knew him. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity, and had advanced to the Royal Arch degree. When a student at college he was converted and united with the church; was therefore a professing Christian and we have no other assurance than he entered in to be with his Lord and Master to spend a happy eternity with the saints who have gone before. He leaves a wife and one child, a son, Vincent, aged three and a half years; a mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Fred and Anna Bartels, Manning, Iowa; two sisters, Misses Dora and Emma Kusel also of Manning. His father, Herman, died in the year 1905. The wife and child were also taken with the "Flu" and were too ill to travel and be present at the funeral.

His age at death was 31 years, 11 months and 6 days. Funeral services were held at the home of Mr. Fred Bartels, Manning, Iowa, Sabbath, December 29, 1918, at 2 o'clock, P.M., Rev. A.T. Aller officiating, after which the masons had charge, and officiated at the grave.

Those sorrowing have the sympathy of all in their irreparable loss.
