William B. Gudykunst

William B. Gudykunst was born October 26, 1947, in Manning, Iowa, and passed away January 20, 2005, in Laguna Beach, California.

He was Professor of Communication Studies and Asian American Studies at California State University Fullerton.

Bill studied interpersonal and intergroup communication across cultures, with a special interest in Japan and the United States. He wrote and edited more than twenty scholarly books published in English and Japanese. Bill created and tested his theory of anxiety and uncertainty management to help understand and improve communication across cultures. He was a Fellow of the International Communication Association.

Bill is survived by his brother Ron, sister-in-law Susan and niece Kim of Phoenix, Arizona, and many friends around the world.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the scholarship in Bill's name at the Department of Human Communication at California State University Fullerton.
