Mrs. Franke Buried Here
The Remains Brought Here From Greeley, Colorado, Arrived Saturday.
The people of Manning were shocked to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. Dorothy Franke, which occurred at her home in Greeley, Colorado. She had suffered some slight pain for a few days but with characteristic consideration for others, she had not mentioned it to her daughters. On Monday, February 20, a little after four o'clock she became violently ill and at 7 o'clock she, died.

Mrs. Dorothea (Pevestorf) Franke was born in November 10, 1850 (tombstone records), in Hanover, Germany. She came to America in 1869 in company with her sister Marie. For some, years her home was in Chicago, where she was married to Gustav Franke in 1875.

They came to Manning when the town was only a year old and have made it their home until about a year and a half ago. The people of Manning who have known Mrs. Franke as a good neighbor, a kind friend and an excellent Christian woman, will not be surprised to learn that she had many warm friends in Colorado also.

She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church when only fourteen years old. She has been a faithful follower of Christ throughout her life, and her Christian experience ripened in beauty during the last months. Her love of the Bible and her study of its pages were very earnest toward the end of life, and her patience and sweetness of disposition was the comfort and joy of her family.

She was always very thoughtful, unselfish and considerate of the comfort and welfare of her husband and children. Up to the very moment of her last acute illness she was cheerful and happy. Her three brothers and three sisters all survive her. All of her children except one who died in infancy are still living and are all well known here: Mrs. Alma Freelove, Mrs. Alva Jenson, the Misses Amanda, Helen, Louise, Dorothy Franke and their brother, Gustav Franke. The record of her influence is written in their characters and she being dead, yet speaketh.

Accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Freelove and daughters, Amanda and Hellen, the silent form of Mrs. Franke was brought to Manning from Colorado. The party arrived here at noon Saturday. At two o'clock the friends assembled at the home of Mr. Halford and proceeded to the Presbyterian Church, where six of Mrs. Franke's seven children have had their membership.

The services were conducted by Rev. F.A. Heizer of the Presbyterian Church of Deep River, Iowa, and the Rev. Mr. A.W. Fruechte of the German Evangelical Church here. In every way possible the services were the same as when Mr. Franke was buried about two years ago. Now the father and mother lie side by side in the Manning Cemetery.

Two sisters and three brothers of the deceased were present at the funeral and all her children except Louise who is sick in Colorado, and Mrs. Freelove who is with her. Mrs. Mee and Miss Emerson, who are friends of Miss Helen Franke came from Gladbrook to attend the funeral.

CARD OF THANKS.
To the numerous friends, who proffered their aid; who opened up their homes to us, and who in so many ways strove to alleviate our sorrow we wish to extend our deepest gratitude, and to express our heartfelt appreciation of the homage and love rendered our mother, and of the tender compassionate sympathy of the loving services given us in our grief.
Children of Mrs. G. Franke.
