WILLIAM JOHN KRUSE
Funeral services for William John Kruse were held Thursday, December 26, 1985, at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Pastor Paul Krumm officiated with Dorothy Kusel as organist and the Zion Lutheran Quartet and the congregation providing the music. Interment was in Manning City Cemetery with Wayne Jahn, Wayne Ranniger, Walter Lage, Russell Stribe, Allen Nissen, and Art Kuhn serving as casketbearers. Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of arrangements.

W.J. son of Heinrich and Magdelena (Lempster) Kruse, was born May 16, 1892, Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa. On February 23, 1916, he was united in marriage with Wilhelmina "Minnie" Schrum, at her parent's home, north of Aspinwall, Iowa. They farmed in Iowa Township, Crawford County, until 1959 when they moved into Manning. W.J. served on the original Board of Directors of the South Crawford REC and on the Board of Directors of the Aspinwall Coop. He was a member of the Hayes Township Schuetzen-Verein. He was also a member of the Zion Lutheran Church where he served as Elder for many years.

In October of 1981 W.J. and his wife Minnie moved into the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. Minnie died on October 3, 1982. W.J. continued in good health until a few weeks before his death on Tuesday, December 24, 1985, at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home, Manning, Iowa at the age of 93 years, 7 months, and 8 days.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; by one son, Roy; by two daughters-in-law, Pauline Kruse and Velma Kruse; by two brothers, Herman and Henry Kruse; by two sisters, Lena Carsten and Laura Wooster; by two half-brothers, Edward and Lester Hagedorn; and by one half-sister, Edna Frahm.

W.J. is survived by one son, Robert Kruse, of Manilla; by one daughter-in-law, Lorraine Kruse, of Manning; by 6 grandchildren; by 15 great-grandchildren; and by one sister, Amanda Gustafson, of Florida; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
