Wilmer John Ehrichs was born July 10, 1918, the son of Emil and Emma (Kuhl) Ehrichs. He died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of eighty-nine.

Wilmer was born in Aspinwall, Iowa, and was baptized in Christ at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa, and later confirmed there on December 20, 1936. He began his education in the Aspinwall Community School system, remaining there through the 9th grade before enrolling at the Manilla Community School, where he graduated with the class of 1936.

On June 7, 1939, Wilmer was united in marriage to Berdine Rowedder at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Manning. The couple made their home in Aspinwall, where Wilmer operated the automobile dealership. They were blessed with the birth of nine children. In August of 1953, the couple moved to Denison, where Wilmer joined his father in his automobile dealership, "Ehrichs Motors." He retired from the business after more than forty years.

Wilmer was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He was a very loving father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. In his free time he enjoyed bowling, playing cards, fishing and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1998; two daughters, Beverly and Deborah; two granddaughters, Tamera Mitchell and Andrea Ehrichs; two great-granddaughters, Moriah Mitchell and Shauna Siemer; and one sister, Verna Buthman. Survivors include five daughters, Janet Cornelius of Denison; Judith Messenbrink and her husband, Louis "Buzz" of Schleswig; Barbara Siemer and her husband, Roger of Denison; Bonnie Davenport of Austin, Texas; Sandra Ahrenholtz and her husband, Eugene of Denison; two sons, Rev. Randal Ehrichs and his wife, Robin of Panama City, Florida; Thomas Ehrichs and his wife, Sheryl of Highland Village, Texas; twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Rowedder of California; Joann Mohr and her husband, Russ of Manning; one brother-in-law, LeRoy Rowedder and his wife, Delores of Manning; other relatives and friends.
