Sorry to hear of the passing of Tom Bennett. I grew up in, and graduated, from Manilla. I have great of memories of knowing Tom and competing against him in all sports. May he rest in peace.

It was very nice visiting with you today about Iowa's Pearl Harbor Survivor Clarence Pfundheller. I believe we all were blessed by you having the opportunity to document Clarence's history before his unfortunate car accident. God truly puts the right people in our lives at the right time. Take care and I look forward to meeting you on Saturday!

Hi Dave, It's been a long time since I had contact with you and even just as long since I've looked at your website. If I had, I would probably know the answer to my question. Why is it that you don't utilize page 3 of the Monitor for the Veteran's stories? Thank You for all the work that you do on these projects and I hope that you had or are still having a good harvest. Greg

Hello David,
many thanks again for showing us around in Manning! We really enjoyed the time with you and your friends! Please say hello to your mum, Phyllis & Bill, Dennis, Rhonda, Kevin and all the others! As we spoke, we're about starting some more investigations on the info you desired. We just want to mention that we didn't forget about it ;-) ;-) ;-). Best regards to y'all from Northern Germany, Alke & J |

Just stopped by and spent loads of time looking at old photos of people who look so familiar, but I can no longer remember their surnames. I was simply too young when I left the area. Your work is amazing. There must be a special place for historians like you.

Dave,
Congratulations on keeping this guestbook going for over 20 years...you keep a lot of people around this country connected to the town they love. I was one of a group that started and internet company in Denver in 1994 and did an IPO in May, 1996...the same month you started this guestbook. I appreciate what you do. Best regards. |

This really wouldn't be history but in 1951 I and a friend (I think it was Eddie Anderson) harvested 36 cottontail rabbits in about an hour with 22 rifles along the railroad right of way within less than a mile east of where the house barn is now. I think this was in the Northwestern-Greatwestern cut. It was just after a fresh heavy snow had fallen.
We didn't want to clean all those rabbits so we gave them to Harold Reinke. He had a big family (9 kids I think) to feed and he also was able to get a little something for the hides. I said gave, but he gave us 10 or 15 cents apiece for them. |

I was astounded to find Nellie R Shea's obituary from 1885. This confirms that she is the daughter of Michael and Ellen O'Connor Shea, my g-g-g-grandparents. Michael died 1873 in Tama County. I wonder who had the tombstone made for him and his wife in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton. In Michael's will, he left Nellie (Ellen) a cow. Thank you so much!

Hello Dave, I'm giving the new guestbook a try. If any of the Manning residents remember my maiden name was Rudnick. I would not recognize Zion Lutheran now with that fancy new entrance. Keep up the good work. Oh, I have another novel out. This one is called Thalia and Earth.

Hello all,
My tech support from http://simpleforumphp.com got the new guestbook working for me. The 2015 guestbook stopped working in August because Netins.net changed some of the functionality on their web server. I hope visitors will leave comments on this guestbook. They are always interesting |
