Loved your pond. It has inspired me to do something on a larger scale as well. We've currently got a 6 x 11 foot pond with a 15 foot stream from a 3 foot cauldron size pool.

This is a great site! Manning is not far from where I grew up on a farm--Coon Rapids. I really like your pond. I live on 29 acres that has been turned into a demonstration wildife habitat. We have six acres of wildflowers, eight-acre woodlot, 11 acres of native grasses for cover and nesting, two acres of food plots, wildlife travel corridor, thicket, three watering and feeding stations, three brush piles and 40 demonstration plots. Altogether, we've planted more than 8,000 trees and shrubs over the past eight years. In the barn on our property is the headquarters of the WindStar Wildlife Institute, a non-profit, national, conservation organization of which I am the founder. I also facilitate the wildlife habitat discussion group on Successful Farming's Ag Online web site.
I've got a question, did you do your site or hire someone to help you. It is really first rate. --Tom Patrick

My Grandfather was William Kooiman (I believe he came to the US from Holland when he was a young child. Looks like there is a possibility of a distant relation.) I have several relatives in the northwest corner of Iowa.

Dave,
Imagine my surprise when I saw a picture of ME on you "friends past .." page. I was searching for hits on "Heithoff".
The picture of me with Tom Bromert and Bob Venteicher was with our drivers' training car and instructor in about 1961.
I don't remember the instructors's name. I went to school with Barry Kusel; is he your father?
My mom sent me an article from the Des Moines Register a couple year's ago about him that I enjoyed. Karla Kusel was also in my class. Cool page!!

I have only been accessing the talk web site for about a month and I wish that I had found it sooner. Thought I would check out your web site as I always check your replies of questions asked. I like your web site, especially the part about it always being under construction. I wish I knew as much as you do about computers as I have only been working with computers about a year and a half ad I have only been on-line since January so there is still lots and lots for me to learn about computers. Is Barry your Dad or a relative? I have heard Barry speak several times at different conferences and I enjoy hearing what he has to say.

Your yield mapping is really interesting although I don't understand exactly how you got the data. We farm (cattle, horses, and hay baling) in East Texas. Just bought a new farm this year, and we're working hard to reclaim it from about 20 years of neglect. Yield mapping would be a really good tool. I'll be back again to learn more. Thanks for a really informative and entertaining page.

I am interested in how much time it took you to complete your
pond, or is it complete? I have a pond 4'x 8' and 2' deep and
I don't think it will ever be done. Also do you have koi
in your pond and if so how do keep them from eating the roots
out of your pots? Nice page. I'll be back.

Hi;
I just found your home page and enjoyed the visit. I now live in town, not that I want to be in town, but after my husband passed away I had no choice than to sell the personal and moved to town.
We had rented the farm we were on for 17 years. I greatly miss the country and the country way of life. So your page was sure welcome this Sunday morning.
As for the lot I have my house on, all the "wildflowers" had to be either cut, mowed, or in some way destoryed, as Corn Poppys and such are NOT permitted in town. Likewise, with birds, I was used to seeing all sorts of different birds, and the beauty of their songs in spring, what a change now. It is the smell of exhaust, and asphalt, in spring and summer, and in winter I can smell the pungent smell of the waste water treatment plant, not that I can't smell it in summer too, it just is more "dis-stink" in winter.
What strange curves life throws at a person in their life-time. The farm my husband and I worked so hard on, was sold and resold and is now sporting a new look of city houses, and so I know the beauty of the birds and wildflowers will one day be a thing of the past for the country too.
I long to be back in the country and one day may be I will get back. (The city won't let me put a barn up so I can have my horses or keep more than one dog)and let me plant the flowers and types of trees that I want, and attract the types of birds that I woud like) Why people want to move to the country only to have the advantages of the city, I haven't figured out yet.

Kusel ancestry in South Africa, which started in 1857. The

WE ARE INTERESTED IN GPS AND PRESISION FARMING IN SOUTH GEORGIA TOO
ARE YOU USING GPS FOR SOIL TESTING AND APPLICATION OF FERTILIZER
AND LIME ALSO? IF SO WHAT MACHINERY ARE YOU USING TO APPLY
WITH PRECISION AND HOW PRECISE DO YOU TRY TO TEST (2 acres
5 acres)? WE ARE GOING TO TRY FOR 2.5 ACRE SOIL TEST PLOTS THIS
YEAR. YOUR YEILD DATA IS INTERESTING. DID YOU EXPECT THE RESULTS
TO BE AS DIFFERENT FROM ONE SIDE OF THE FIELD TO THE OTHER
AS THEY WERE?
