The bricks used in this north entry-way are the original Hausbarn bricks.
The rest of the bricks used in the re-construction of the Hausbarn are reclaimed bricks
from old buildings in Chicago, Illinois.

Original Haus/Barn Bricks Layed - Heinz Olk brushing the mortor on the 1660's era bricks which were used in the construction of the Haus/Bam. Brick layers, Heinz Olk, Omaha, Nebraska; Michael Olk, Gretna, Nebraska; Karl Maass, DeWitt, Iowa; Bernhard Sauer, Pella, Iowa; and Rudy Kaut, Des Moines, began laying brick last Friday. Heinz Olk, as well as Maass, Sauer and Kaut, are all immigrants from Germany. All the men are brick layers by trade, except Kaut who is a tile setter by trade.
By the time late Saturday afternoon rolled around, the brick layers had completed the west side of the Haus/Barn and the north entry way.
Helping as tenders for the brick layers were LeRoy Rowedder, Ken Jensen and Jeremia Macumber. In addition to the bricks that came from Germany, around 500, bricks were purchased in Chicago that were near die original size and color that will be used to finish the project. These bricks are old and were in construction in past years.
