2016 was the first year that the Zion Seventh and Eighth Grade students provided (with the help of their parents) snacks for a fellowship brunch after a church service with a goal to raise funds for a community project. These students helped serve the refreshments and cleaned up afterwards in the fellowship hall.

Members of the congregation gave a free-will offering and the funds raised from that event, along with a Thrivent Financial Action Grant, were used by several of the students and teachers to purchase non-perishable food items at the West Street Market and then deliver those items to the Food Pantry in Manning.

For the 2017 fellowship, it was suggested by Tim and Joni Kienast that the funds be used to provide meals for members of Zion in Manning and Trinity at Manilla who have a difficult time getting out and about in the community. Two families from Trinity Manilla also assisted with this event. The Seventh and Eighth Grade students hosted a December 2016 church fellowship with the intent to use the money, along with a Thrivent Action grant, to purchase meals that would be prepared and delivered at a later date. The students include: Timothy Conner, Emma Reese, Haven Reese, Luke Ramsey, Nolan Ramsey, Brody Blom, Sierra Ferry, Tanner Crawford, Chloe Otto, Macie Doyel, Drew Doyel, and Kamaya Jacobsen.

Several days before the delivery date, Holly Borkowski and Tim Kienast called the meal recipients to let them know that someone would deliver a meal to them Sunday morning January 22, 2017.

Deb Knueven of Deb's Corner Cafe prepared the meals. She began the preparation on Saturday, and then between 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Sunday morning she completed the meals that consisted of roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, jello, pudding, and bread. Deb has owned and operated the Corner Cafe for 23 years and is also a big supporter of the Manning Community.
The Seventh and Eighth Grade students who helped with the delivery of thirteen meals during the Sunday School hour, were Luke Ramsey, Nolan Ramsey, Drew Doyel, Macie Doyel, Haven Reese, Emma Reese, Sierra Ferry, and Brody Blom. Tim Kienast and Holly Borkowski are their teachers. Parents who provided transportation and assisted the students with the deliveries were Jason Ferry, Eric Ramsey, Joy and Jon Blom, Bobby Doyel, and Shaunda Martin.

The students have some left-over funds and will decide on what project to donate to at a later date.

One of the goals of this church youth project is for the students to participate in community service and interact with the elderly and shut-ins. In order to assist with this year's project, Pastor Conner provided a devotional pamphlet with prayer and scripture for the students to read with each of the recipients when they delivered the meals.

Plans are for this Junior High project to become an annual event.
