Benefit To Be Held For Alex Abarca

This Sunday evening, July 7th there will be a Benefit Spaghetti Supper at the Sacred Heart Church to help defray costs for a heart operation for Alex Abarca.

Alex Abarca has been a foreign exchange student at Manning Community High School for the past year. He has been staying with the David and Carol Souter family. He arrived last August and had plans to return home to San Ramon, Costa Rica this July. This spring he started experiencing chest pains and after seeking medical help, the doctors decided he would need heart surgery. They found a defect in his heart chamber that was not allowing his blood to be fully oxygenated. Surgery is scheduled for July 11th in Des Moines, Iowa.

His mother, Gabriela, will be arriving on Sunday to be with him for the surgery. His father, Jorge who is an elementary teacher in Costa Rica, will remain home with his brother, Juan, who is eight and his baby sister, Nazareth, who is one year old.

Alex coached the 5th and 6th grade soccer team this past fall and spring and has enjoyed living in the country with the Souters.

The SHOUT group will be hosting a benefit at the Sacred Heart Church this Sunday evening.
A free will offering will be taken.
