36th Annual Firemen's Tournament in Maquoketa, Iowa 1914
Manning won 29 points and Grand Mound 35 points. Because Manning won the previous three State Tournaments and the Cup permanently it was banned from both State Races, both Amateur Races and the Coupling Contest.
It was also said by some Fire Department members from other communities that Manning had a "professional" team which was of course just an excuse by the losers because Manning won so often.
Mantz, Wheeler, Lathrop, Kempf, Rushenberg, McLaughlin, Reinhold, Dyson, Grelck, Rostermundt, Dillingham, Goettsch & Werder who were all hard working average citizens and not "professional" runners who were from a not-so "average" community called Manning, Iowa --- home of Champions.
