Thus Pastor Deckmann was the first resident pastor, but not for long, for on October 24, 1886, he was given a peaceful release to accept a call to Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

On January 30, 1887, Rev. Anton Ehlers of Ellinwood, Kansas, was called by Trinity.

Pastor Ehlers served the congregation for nineteen years. In 1890 English was taught in the school four hours a week. Also in 1890, the church seal and a congregational book were purchased. As the membership grew, the church proved to be too small, so on September 30, 1900, the congregation resolved to build a new and much larger church edifice on the north side of the road on "new ground" purchased Rev. Ehlers from H. Ketelsen at $55.00 an acre. Building operations began in the spring of 1901 on a 60 x 34 x 18 edifice with an addition of 12 x 34 for altar, sacristy and small room. This church had a 11 1/2 x 11 1/2 base tower with a 92' spire. Earlier in the year a thousand pound bell was purchased for cash. Benches were bought from Hann-Wangerin Company. The baptismal font and hymn board were given by Pastor Ehlers. The surrounding sister congregations were invited for the dedication services held on October 6, 1901. The old church edifice on the south side of the road was remodeled to be used as a school. In July of 1906 Pastor Ehlers resigned because of a prolonged illness.
